Timings will be aligned with updated shipping line schedule ETD less 3 months.
TIMINGS PRIORITY
- Late April launch for Malaysia via Turkey-Central Asia-China. Return shipment from Malaysia to Australia timed with CPD validity period.
- Early November pack for return shipment from Italy to Australia to provide optimal ride window needed for riders launched from Malaysia.
- Trans Euro Trail riders with priority for: 1) SE loop via Croatia-Balkans-Greece; 2) SW loop via Spain-Portugal-Morocco; and 3) the high altitude link between the two, including the great arc Alpine system from Slovenia to France, Massif Central and Pyrenees.
- Southern Europe in general. Northern Europe is saturated with shipping options via UK, Hamburg and Gdańsk but these locations do not work for OBO's priority ride regions and windows.
Storage
Two weeks free in Australia. AU$5 per day beyond the free storage period.
Two months free storage in Italy. Storage beyond two months arranged case-by-case.
Ultimately we clear your motorcycle on your behalf and secure store ready for you in our depot 20mins from Malpensa International Airport. The entry and exit we provide for our customers via our Milan depot is truly seamless.
Carnet de Passages en Douance (CPD)
CPD is required for Italy import in order to achieve timings priorities outlined above. CPD is not required for export. The import CPD requirement is 'out of the ordinary' for Europe, however, the benefits are truly significant for OBO's customers. A dedicated article will be published shortly outlining the benefits of using the CPD for Italy import. Quick summary:
- Extended ride window to cover optimal southern Europe riding months of September + October. Explore the high Alps front half of September after the motorbike carousels have subsided then make your way SE to Croatia-Balkans-Greece or SW to Spain-Portugal-Morocco.
- A Temporary Import Permits (TIP) is very strictly six months and forces the September pack. OBO cannot handle packing bikes in September with all the local riders frothing at the best month of the year ahead.
- The RoRo ferry links to Italy are substantial allowing riders to enjoy the optimal later months to the very end with clear low-altitude routes back to the Milan depot. For example, the RoRo ferry from Tanger Med to Genoa allows riders to enjoy the magic in Morocco to end of October. The RoRo ferries to Bari and Ancona on the other side allow for riders to enjoy the SE Europe run to the very end of the ride window.
- Significantly improved Spring + Autumn itinerary options relative to newly enforced Schengen 90/180 rule. OBO highly recommends riders to prioritise May-June and Sep-Oct. Have a non-Schengen plan for the ridiculously crowded months of Jul-Aug. Non Schengen countries include: United Kingdom, 6 x Balkans countries, Turkey and Morocco. A rider can easily manage a Balkans loop in Spring AND a loop to Morocco in Autumn.
- CPD ensures reliability of import operations because the CPD is recognised via all terminals. The TIP procedure is not. Should the shipping line discharge at an alternative terminal due to congestion or other issues then a CPD shipment can still be processed at that alternative terminal. A container with bikes relying on TIPs cannot be processed and will be delayed waiting for another ship to transport the container to the required terminal.
- OBO's riders bound from Malaysia can maximise their journey by timing their descent from Georgia's Greater Caucasus mid to late Sep, clear high plateaus of eastern Anatolia by end of Sep, Greece mid Oct, Igoumenitsa / Patras–Ancona ferry then Po Valley to Milan.
- CPD extension option with Italy Automobile Association (ACI). You can extend a CPD once.
If none of the above benefit your plan then there may be a better shipping solution for you.
CPD Cost for Aussie Riders
https://www.aaa.asn.au/international-motoring/taking-my-vehicle-overseas/
$1,178 Application Fee
$5,000 Refundable Bond
OBO acknowledges that other shipping options to Europe and the UK do not require a CPD so OBO not only discounts the all-inclusive one-way cost to AU$2,500 but also provides a further 10% discount on the return shipment for bikes returning to Australia the same year.
A return rider is therefore out of pocket AU$2,500 to Italy + AU$2,250 return to Australia + AU$1,178 CPD cost = AU$5,928
